Fire Prevention Week 2010. Pictures from this year are HERE.
This year the theme is “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With”.
The Wimberley Fire Department will be visiting local schools and daycare during the week of October 3 to help educate our children on fire safety. Below is a list of topics that we discuss with the children:
- Stop - Drop - Roll (clothes of fire)
- Stay Low and Go (if there is smoke in the room)
- Dial 911 (for various types of emergencies)
- Do not play with matches, lighters, irons, stoves or light bulbs
- Exit drills in the home
- Fire Fighters are our friends (live demonstration of donning our full protective gear followed by allowing the children to hug a fire fighter)
- Fire Engine (we allow the children to look at one of our fire trucks and show them some of the tools on the truck)
- Educational Packet (all children receive an age orientated fire prevention packet with coloring books and other items)
